Content marketing is all the rage in the recent years. While it is considered a relatively new type of marketing, it’s a strategy that is as old as time. Simply put, content marketing is storytelling. But unlike traditional advertising which actively attracts customers with flashy ads to get noticed, content marketing provides customers information and resources that they want and need.

To understand content marketing better, NextStep brings you 5 content marketing concepts to help you create your own content marketing strategy.

1. What is Content Marketing?

According to Marketingcloud.com, content marketing is creating and sharing useful content in order to create a relationship with your audience. The content you share can come in different forms, from infographics, videos, research materials, social media posts and blog posts. While there are still promotional materials shared, it comes in rarely and seldom talks directly about the company. Content marketing’s primary concern is to provide something of value to its readers and followers.

Your target audience is the focus of content marketing, so it is necessary for you to think of them when choosing the content you write, create or share. So why do you need to create a strategy when all you need to do is share content? A solid content strategy will help you connect and engage with your audience and also keep up with the trends which will in turn keep your content in line with the needs and wants of your target audience.

3. What is Social Media Marketing?

While content marketing deals what you share, social media marketing is concerned with where you share your content.  This strategy is focused on creating and strengthening your social media presence. From Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest and other social media network, the key is to understanding the profiles of your target market, what they want to see in that platform and the time your audience checks in to get updates in that platform. What Google does is it reads indexes and ranks the texts to make it searchable on the web.  The goal is to come up with terms and keywords you want to be found for and include them when writing your content.
